Do I Have a Water Leak?

It’s what nightmares are made of. At some point we’ve all woken up to a mysterious, incessant dripping in the middle of the night. It could drive you insane. What’s worse is the problem is usually the precursor to an even larger one. Fortunately, we have some tips on how to tell if something bigger is at hand.

Increased Water Bill
This one is easy to spot because it hits you where it matters most – your wallet. If you see an increase in your water bill without an increase in water usage, something is rotten in Denmark. There are no magic tricks in plumbing. If your water bill is going up, your water is going somewhere. And most likely it’s a place it’s not supposed to.

Sound of Flowing Water
The sound of moving water is around you. You’re sure of it. But the faucets are off. No one is using the shower. The tub is drained. There’s a leak somewhere. You can probably hear it underneath the floor or within the walls of your house. This is a situation where you should call Daunhauer immediately. If water is flowing from inside your house, you need to address it before it creates costly water damage.

Low Water Pressure
Another place to consider when trying to discern if your home has a leak can be found in the shower. Take a moment and decide how the water pressure is. Is it constantly low, or is it sporadic? Is it low in just one faucet, or multiple faucets? Can it be localized to just one room? Answering these questions can help your Daunhauer plumber isolate the possible leak and get to the root of the problem immediately.

Wet Spots on the Floor or the Wall
This probably goes without saying, but if you notice damp spots on the floor, wall or ceiling, there’s a good chance there’s a leak in that spot. Don’t hesitate. Call your plumber. The longer you wait, the potential for more damage and repair costs will only grow.

And as always, if you have any questions about a leak or if you need help call Dauenhauer, any hour.
