Take heart! We’re still here for you. Dauenhauer Plumbing has professional thawing equipment on hand to unfreeze your pipes. So if you’d like us to take care of it for you, just give us a call. However, if you’d like to try to take care of it yourself first, here are a few tips:
- If water doesn’t come out of your faucet, leave it on until pipes thaw and water comes out (if you can stay near by)
- Purchase heat tape at local home improvement store which plugs into 110 outlet. It wraps around pipe (assuming you’re dealing with copper or metal pipes, NOT plastic) and heats the pipe to prevent freezing, but it can also thaw frozen pipes.
- Don’t thaw pipes with flame or blowtorch
- You can thaw pipes with a hair dryer
- Know where your master shut off valve is
- Check that your sump discharge lines are clear at the point water exits
